Understanding Reporting
Lantern provides comprehensive tools to help you track quiz performance and gather valuable insights. These tools are divided into two main categories: built-in reporting and analytics, and third-party tracking integrations. Let’s dive into both sections.
Built-In Reporting and Analytics
Lantern offers a wide range of built-in analytics accessible through Reporting -> Analytics.
Track these essential metrics to understand your quiz’s performance:
- Engagements: Unlike other apps that may count all opened quizzes as engagements, Lantern counts an engagement only when a user answers at least one question.
- Emails Collected: The total number of users who provided their email addresses during the quiz.
- Orders: The number of purchases made directly from the quiz results page.
- Sales: The total revenue generated from quiz-based orders made directly from the quiz results page.
- Average Order Value (AOV): The average spending per order made after completing the quiz.
- Flow Conversion Rate: Monitors user activity at various quiz stages:
- Views: For embedded quizzes, a view counts whenever a user scrolls over the quiz embed, whether they start it or not. For quizzes accessed via URL, views are recorded only when the link is clicked.
- Engagements: Occurs when a user begins the quiz and answers at least one question.
- Reached Results: The number of users who completed the quiz and reached the results page.
- Sessions Converted: The percentage of users who made a purchase directly from the quiz results page.
- Sessions by Device: Data on the types of devices (mobile, desktop, etc.) used by quiz participants.
- Sessions by Location: Geographic data on quiz participants’ locations.
- Top Selling Products: The products that achieved the highest sales through quiz recommendations.
- Top Recommended Products: The most frequently recommended products in the quiz.
Additionally, under Reporting -> Submissions, you can review detailed quiz completion data. This includes the answers users selected and the saved static URL for each user’s results page.
For more detailed insights, the Reporting -> Sessions section provides analytics on quiz engagement status, location data, and customer emails (if provided).
Engagement statuses include:
- Open: This means that customers clicked the quiz URL and opened the quiz but abandoned it without answering any questions. This would also count if you previewed the quiz without responding to any questions.
- Started: Customers have answered at least one question but did not complete the quiz.
- Completed: The quiz was fully completed, and customers reached the results page.
- Converted: A purchase was made immediately after completing the quiz.
Advanced Tracking with Lantern
Lantern offers Advanced Analytics, a powerful built-in tool designed to give you deeper insights into how users interact with your quizzes. With seamless integration with third-party tools like Google Analytics, you can track a wealth of user behavior and conversion data without needing any custom coding.
Custom Tracking Code for Other Third-Party Tools
For tracking tools that Lantern doesn’t yet offer full integration with, you can still add custom JavaScript tracking codes through the Settings section of your quiz. This allows you to manually integrate 3rd party tracking platforms by inserting the necessary code. Lantern organizes tracking code sections into two areas:
- Code to be inserted in the head of the page
- Code that belongs in the body of the page
If you're using third-party tools, you'll need to follow the specific instructions provided by the analytics platform to generate the required JavaScript code and manually install it into the relevant sections of your quiz—similar to how you would add tracking to a website or app.
For additional support with installing custom tracking or integrating third-party tools, we recommend Storetasker, a trusted Lantern partner. They have helped thousands of Shopify merchants hire expert freelancers for anything related to their store setup and customization.
